THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A wedgo of high pressure is crossing New Zealand, but another rather intense depression is moving over the Tasman Sea. AVesterly winds, moderate to strong and squally at times, backing to south-westerly after from 24 to 36 hours. Seas rough on the AVest Coast and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Strong north-west to west winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, backing later to south-west; seas rough to heavy. AVeather mainly fair at first in eastern provinces, but changeable generally, with rain at times, in western and far southern districts. DISTRICT REPORT. SQUALLY AND CHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are for moderate to strong westerly winds, freshing at times, and after about 24 hours hacking by west to south. The weather will probably prove squally and changeable, with scattered rain. The barometer is unsteady, and will be rising after about 10 hours. MANAAVATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —lft.
