CHURCH OF CHRIST.
WELCOME TO EVANGELIST. Members and friends gathered in good numbers last evening at Campbell Street Church of Christ to welcome Mr and Mrs A. Hinrichsen* of Queensland, to the ministry of the church. Bro. H. Grinstead presided and said that the church had come to a crisis in its affairs. _ Never in their history had it been so important that the leaders and members should be solidly united. Many of their new members had been those who had made great sacrifices, had followed what they believed to be God’s will; they, would continue to stand for the Church of the New Testament. . The following represented the church and its various auxiliaries: —The Church (Bro. Pullyn), the C.W.A. (Sister Willson), a pleasing incident being the presentation of a beautiful bouquet to Sister Henricksen by little Miss Nicholson; men’s council (Bro. Martin); youth work (Bro. J. Parker); Middle District Committee (Bro. H. Greenwood, evangelist Lower Hutt circuit); the temperance work of tho church (Bro. Wright). To be an evangelist of the Church of Christ was to be essentially a determined opponent of tho liquor traffic, an out and out prohibitionist, said the speaker, and they looked forward to many a visit from their evangelist in the coming session. Bro. Hinrichsen thanked the brethren for the warmth of their welcome and said he hoped to have a successful ministry with them. With the aid of God’s Holy Spirit he was quite sure they would have that. Musical and elocutionary items were interspersed and at the close of the gathering supper was provided in tho schoolroom.
During the gathering the chairman read telegram messages from Wanganui, Levin, Auckland, Wellington, and Lower Hutt congratulating the church on the appointment of Bro. Hinrichsen as evangelist.
