ROAD METALLING.

AVORK FOR UNEMPLOYED.. MARTON, April 8. AVhat appears to be a very commendable scheme for bringing out of the larger centres 100 unemployed single men was outlined at to-day’s meeting of the Rangitikei County Council by the engineer, Mr S. A. R. Mail 1 . / Mr Stair’s proposal, which was endorsed by the council, is to establish two unemployed camps in the upper Turakina and Pohonui districts, the metalling roads which, it is understood, are some of the most dangerous in the Dominion.

The work is estimated to cost £lO,000, over 80 per cent, of that being labour costs. It is expected to keep 100 men going for twelve months. Representations are accordingly being made to the Minister, through Mr A. Stuart, M.P., who is really behind the movement.
