Mr and Mrs T. Donaldson, of Feilding, who have been holidaying in Auckland, returned to Feilding yesterday.

Mrs E. De Voile, Gloucestershire, England, with her son, arrived -by the lonic on Wednesday on an extended visit to her sister, Mrs S. M. Slight, Colyton. Tributes to the splendid service rendered the Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. by Mr and Mrs C. C. Woods were voiced at the annual meeting of the association last evening. Several speakers said their work was an inspiration and and an example to all connected with the movement. Miss Lorna Ferguson, daughter of Mrs C. A. E. Ferguson, of Lyndhurst Street, has been appointed to the charge of the dental clinic at Opotiki, Bay of Plenty, and will shortly take up her duties. Miss Ferguson has been at the dental clinic at Wellington for over two years. A quiet wedding was celebrated at All Saints’ Church, Kilbirnie, Wellington,' recently, when Vera Summerliayes, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold W. Tolan, of Hataitai, was married to Ronald Stark, only son of Mr and Mrs J. Pearce Luke, Hataitai, and grandson of the late Sir John P. Luke. Miss Audrey McCrea, of Auckland Y.W.C.A., who left the Dominion a year ago for travel and study, spent three months, in Canada and then went south to the State of Maine, where she spent the summer as a counsellor at Camp Maqua. the camp of the National Board of the Y.W.C.A. Early in September she attended the international conference of the student service, at which there were two other New Zealanders present. Miss McCrea then went to New York for work at the Union Theological Seminary and Teachers’ College, Columbia. She left America at the end of January, and is staying in England for six weeks prior to going on to Geneva, where she will spend three months at the headquarters of the Y.W.C.A. there. She is to attend the conference of youth workers in Dussel, Germany, and will probably sail for New Zealand at the end of July.

Mr and Mrs J. Hutchinsqn, of Hataitai, Wellington, are visitors to Palmerston North and are the guests of Mr and Mrs M. Lee, Mere Mere Avenue. The members of the Practice Bridge Club met yesterday in the Broadway Lounge for the first time this season, when there was a fair, attendance. During the season the members will compete for an aggregate prize and also play progressive bridge. The first of the season’s series of social gatherings in the West End School was field last flight, when there was a satisfactory attendance. Mr W. Schwabe was M.C. for the dancing, which proved most enjoyable, while there was good competition for the euchre prizes. CROQUET. In a match for the Gilbert Croquet Hoops played on Northern greens yesterday, the holders, Mesdames E. Palmer and Tucker, beat Mesdames Halpin and McCarthy (Woodville) ‘26—1 21. In the singles of the croquet match played at Dannevirke on Thursday afternoon, Mrs Gillespie (Dannevirke) lost to Mrs Wilson (Manawatu). This was one of the friendly matches between Manawatu and Rangatira (Dannevirlce) Clubs. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY. In honour of the coming-of-age of their elder son, William, Mr and Mrs W, Howell gave an enjoyable party at their residence, “Duntroon,” Kaumai, on Wednesday evening. The porch, in which dancing was held, was decorated with hanging baskets of flowers and ferns, streamers in autumn tints and butterflies, making a charming setting tor the beautiful frocks worn by the } W ng ladies. Mr and Mrs Howeli received their guests, Mrs Howell wearing a beautiful frock of navy lace over georgette, while Miss Janet Howell, who assisted, wore almond green floral georgette. While the young folk danced and engaged in competitions, games, etc., the older people present played bridge in ono of the reception rooms. Violin solos wero rendered by Mr G. Nash. The winners of the competitions were Miss Carr and Mr E. \\ ood. Supper was served in the living room, which was gay with bowls of scarlet dahlias and bronze marigolds. The main feature of the supper was the birthday cake, which had been beautifully iced by Mr F. Wood. After supper the toast of the guest of the evening was proposed by Mr N. D.. Stubbs, an. old friend of the family, and was 'responded to in a happy speech by Mr “Bill” Howell, who specially mentioned the pleasure it gave him to see both his grandmothers, Mrs Howell, senr. (Marton) and Mrs Morris (Christchurch) present. On behalf of all present Mr . Smart returned thanks to Mr and Mrs Howell for their hospitality, Mr Howell suitably replying. Dancing was resumed until the early hours of the morning, when the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought an enjoyable party to a close.'
