PHAR LAP DEAD!—Not only the racing fraternity, but all admirers of animals were astounded to hear of the death in America of the great racehorse. Phar Lap is reported to have died from an attack of oolic. These pictures, which arrived from Mexico this week, were taken when Phar Lap appeared on the Agua Caliente racecourse to make an exhibition gallop. A few days later he scored his hollow victory over leading American horses in the Agua Caliente Handicap. On the left the horse is shown with his trainer Woodcock. whose methods of training were criticised by the mentors overseas, but vindicated in his success. The Australian jockey, W. Elliott, who went over to Mexico and rode Phar Lap, is teen with the colours up in the centre, while the picture on the right was taken on the Mexican course after the trial gallop.
