FEILDING

MANCHESTER STREET SCHOOL. The monthly meeting of the Manchester Street School Committee was held on Monday night, Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick being in tho chair. The headmaster, Mr Mcllroy, reported that the roll stood at 414 at present, seven having been admitted and two had left during the month. The average attendance for the month was 390.8, being 95 per cent. The chairman informed the committee of the annual meeting of householders. DISTRICT NURSE. Rev. Canon F. H. Petrie presided at the usual monthly meeting of the Feilding district Nurse Association, there being also present Mesdames Miles, Taylor, Sporle, Farmer, Bd " man, Andrews, Barltrop, Fitzpatrick, Stalker and Messrs Smith, Goldsmith, Rev. D. R. McDonald and F. Copeland. Mr K. J. Hornblow, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, and Mr A. J. Phillipps, managing secretary of the board, were also present and discussed the activities of the association in general, expressing great appreciation of the good work done. . Sister Smith reported that 324 visits to the sick had been paid, five patients discharged and five sent to the Hospital. Medical comforts had been supplied to four people. Gifts of fruit, fuel and food were reported as having been received from the recent Sunday school convention held in Feilding and from Mesdames Mason, Theed, and an anonymous donor, the gifts being received with thanks. Donations were received with thanks from the following: Anonymous £2 os; samo 2s; Mr Poole £1; Mrs J. Corpe £1; Mrs Cobbe 10s. Accounts amounting to £ll 2s were passed for payment. TENNIS MATCH. At the Makino tennis courts the local A team and Kiwitea met in a competition match which ended in a draw each team having scored 9 games. Kilgour lost to A. Withers 18—21, T. Norris lost to W Baker 13—21, W. Brown beat H. Nairn 21—17, R. Brown beat R. Petersen 27—25, D. Kilgour beat D. Fraser 23—21, S. Shand beat K. Gavigan 21—17. _ Ladies’ doubles.—Misses Rutherford and Kilgour beat Misses Withers and Amer 21—17, Misses Stack and Weeks lost to Misses Laing and Rowland 17 —21, Misses Williams and Brown beat Mrs Withers and Miss Hills 2i 14. Men’s doubles.—K. Kilgour and W. Brown lost to Withers and Baker 14 —21 Norris and Shand lost to Nairn and It. Petersen 12 —21; D. Brown and D Kilgour beat Fraser and Gavigan 21—18. ' NOTES. Speaking at a Labour meeting at Feilding on Sunday evening, Mr E. U. Bond, of Awahuri, stated that prior to the past election he had been approached with a request that he represent the party for Oroua. Unfortunately, he had not seen his way clear to do so at the time, but in the event of another election occurring he would oe pleased to offer his services At the time of the election representatives of the Labour Party in the Manaivatu had approached with a request that he offer nis services in that electorate and, with the Oroua supporters also seeking his services lie had felt that Le had been unusually honoured
