PETITIONS TO THE HOUSE.
WAGE REDUCTIONS OPPOSED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 21. Petitions from Palmerston North, Whangarei, Westport and Raglan were presented in the House to-night urging the Government to make no further reductions in wages. The signatories were stated to include numerous business men. The petitions state: “With due recognition of the unprecedented financial position of the Dominion we submit that the promotion and preservation of its prosperity and the prevention of further individual financial embarrassment, hardship and extension of unemployment render it essential that no further reductions in salaries or wages be made.” The petitions were referred to the Government.
