THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The cyclone has now moved east of Chatham Island and the weather is controlled by an anti-cyclone centred over southern New Zealand. A fresh depression is centred near Tasmania. Moderate to strong southerly winds, decreasing and later backing to east and north. Still a considerable swell on the East Coast north of Kaikoura; elsewhere smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Freshening east to north winds in the eastern Tasman Sea; seas smooth to moderate, but increasing. Weather mainly fair to fine and cool; still some showers, however, between Castlepoint and East Cape, but improving. DISTRICT REPORT. FAVOURABLE - PROSPECTS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for moderate southerly winds. There is a prospect of fine weather; days bright and nights cold. The barometer shows little movement.
