PERSONAL.

Mr J. K. Hornblow, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, is visiting Wellington. The death took place at Nelson yesterday of Dr. W. J. Mackay, aged 83. Deceased was a well-known and respected medical practitioner. Mr W. A. Waters, of Palmerston North, is attending tile first meeting of the Advisory Council to the Radio Broadcasting Board in Wellington. Mr C. I. Dasent, the retiring secretary of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society, was the subject of a congratulatory resolution at the society’s meeting on Weduesday evening. Mr Dasent had been secretary for 25 years. Messrs B. J. Jacobs, L. G. Millward and A. Akers returned to Palmerston North to-day from a fortnight’s holiday in the north; where they spent the time in cruising and deep sea fishing along the coast between Mayor Island and the Barrier, and in the Firth of Thames. At the annual conference of the Commercial Travellers’_ and Warehousemen’s Association in Wellington yesterday, officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow:—President, Mr G. Watson (Christchurch); hon. treasurer, Mr H. H. Wauchop; auditor, Mr H. Bicknell; third member of the board of management of the accident and sickness fund, Mr W. A. Drake; members of the board of management of the New Zealand Traveller, Mr W. A. Drake and Mr S. A. Orchard. The venue of the next conference was fixed for Christchurch.
