SLUGGISH RIVER BOARD.

AIONTHLY AIEETING. Tho monthly meeting of the Sluggish River Drainage Board was held yesterday, Air F. J. Foster presiding. Also present were Alessrs Ryan, Print, Alorcom and. Lancaster. On Air Lancaster’s motion it was decided to enquire if Air R. AVhite’s floodgate would require to be replaced as it had not been of use since tho deepening of tho drain. It was decided that the chairman and Air Print deal with the question of ropairs to Air Print’s floodgate. The board decided to impose tho 10 per cent, penalty on all rates unpaid after Alarch 24. It was resolved that tenders he called for the cleaning of the following drains : —Taikorea, Cooper and Greenaway’s, Alather’s, Number 2, Sluggish Creek (second portion), Johnston’s, AA’alsh and Leen’s and Craven’s. The overseer (Air AA r . Locke) reported that work was still being done in Alain Drain and Sluggish Creek and with the deepening to the dato in Alain Drain one nulo and four chains had been completed. Good progress had been made with improving No. 1 and No. 3 Drains, also the widening of the outlet by Mr Donald’s bridge. The floodgato by Air AVhite’s corner had fallen into the drain. The contractors had started in No. 1, No. 6 and Lane’s Drains. The No. 5’ scheme men on the jobs averaged 70 daily.
