Organised by the committee of the Feilding Croquet Club to raise funds for the laying down of the new lawns, a very successful croquet afternoon was held on the Feilding green yesterday when visitors were present' from other clubs in force. The games were for trophies kindly donated by Mrs F. H. Stockwell, the various competitions providing most interesting matches. The ladies of the club dispensed a very acceptable afternoon tea for which the appreciation of the visitors was freely expressed. The details cf the competitions are as follow ; —Golf croquet, Mrs J. S. Tingey (Feilding Club): French croquet, Mrs Moore (Oroua Club); ladder croquet, Mrs H. Pearce (St. John’s Club); clock croquet, Mrs Moore. NEW PLYMOUTH MAILS. To facilitate the delivery of the postal matter from New Plymouth to Feilding the Post and Telegraph De-

partment has decided to have a special mail bag made up at New Plymouth daily for Feilding and will be carried on the New Plymouth-Wellington express. When the department decided to cease running the mail van on the express, the mail service from .Taranaki to Feilding was upset. Letters for Feilding posted in the morning at New Plymouth were carried, on to Palmerston North and resorted there, returning to Feilding by a later train. This meant that the correspondence was received here too late for lifting on the same day, and this was considered a serious matter by business people. • The Chamber of Commerce made representations to the department, with the request that some provision might be made for prompt transit and delivery. The department has decided upon the plan which the chamber recommended.

WOMEN’S NATIONAL RESERVE.

In acknowledging the receipt of the floral token, Mrs Siigden expressed her pleasure at the feelings which had prompted the members of the reserve to make the presentation and referred also to the many pleasant associations she would always recall of their work together. Those present joined in wiping Mrs Sugden a pleasant and healthful trip. There were present at the meeting Mesdames J. G. Cobbo, A. Sugden, J. Darragh, R. H. Buchanan, A. Bridge, J, Sporle, A.
