HOSPITAL SYSTEM.
NORTH CANTERBURY BOARD’S ATTITUDE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 24. The North Canterbury Hospital Board gave consideration to the Wel« lington board’s proposals for a revi* sion of the hospital system, but the Wellington suggestion that the matter be placed before the emergency session of Parliament met with little support. It was decided to support the recommendation of the Palmerston North Board that consideration be deferred, and it was resolved accordingly that the matter be held over , until after the election of the new board in May. “We cannot carry on under the same circumstances unless we are given some assistance from Parliament,” said Mr J. Otley, chairman, when discussing : the report of the benevolent committee. “The position was desperate. There wero five or six hundred men applying for relief weekly, and there was no accommodation for them. Overcrowdmg interfered with the work of toe office staff and the hearing of applications occupied the secretary and assistant secretary, two inspectors and several members of the committee for two days and a half each week. “The whole matter of providing relief for unemployed should be brought before G « Ver u m ? n £'” adde d Mr Otley.
