AT THE REGENT. RUTH CHATTERTON IN “UNFAITHFUL.” Written by tho popular playwright, John yan Drutcn and starring Ruth Cliattcrton, Unfaithful” is enjoying' a popular season at tho Regent Theatre. Tho film, which tells the amazing story of a woman forced to choose between love and reputation, takes every advantage of Chat.terton’s blazing genius to put across an emotional story such as even Chattcrton has seldom equalled. “Unfaithful,” tho story, was written especially for Chattcrton by John van Drutcn, tho English playwright, whoso “Young Woodley” won him famo and a first prize on tho Now York stage. Into tho story van Drutcn has injected ail action series of climaxes worthy of Chatterton’s power. As tho ccntrepricco of a brilliant socioty whirl, Ruth Chattcrton is seen in a glamorous setting, in gorgeous elohes, a woman madly in lovo with the hero-husband fato has given her,* assured in her position. All tho more surprising is tho transformation ono startling incident works ill this beautiful heroine. Disillusioned in love, with her ideals smashed, she is helpless to free herself of tho fetters of a marriago which has bccomo intolerable. Then, as the scandal-daring and rocklcss woman of tho world, Ruth Chattcrton .truly reveals her unequalled power of portrayal. Rash living, loolishdoving, this aristocratic girl touches the heights and depths of a thrillmad society. At tho heights sho meets Paul Lukas to give her a new faith and add a' new moaning to her life. How they, together work out her salvation is tho absorbing story "Unfaithful” reveals. “Unfaithful” is tho third Chattcrton starring Paramount ychinlo in which Lukas has played the leading male role. He was seen in “Tho Better Wile” and “The Right to Lovo” so advantageously and played his difficult roles with such skill that a popular demand gavo him this third opportunity to play with Ruth Cliattcrton. Tho brilliant star and virile dicctor, John Cromwell, have made a picture of sustained power. In addition the cast includes Paul Cavanagh, seen as the erring husband. “CUBAN LOVE SONG.” “Tho Cuban Lovo Song,” screening at the Regent on Saturday, is essentially a love story. Lawrence Tibbctt, tho Metropolitan Opera star, is seen as a swashbuckling marine who meets and loves a little Cuban peanut seller. Fate conspires to break a romance and kill a lovo that was only a memory. Tibbett as the daredevil hero proves that in modern roles ho is as colourful a figure as in costume or uniform. His singing of “The Cuban Love Song,” and othor tuneful numbers, is superb; his acting is gripping. Then, too, there are lighter moments, as when Lupe Velez teaches him “The Peanut Vendor.” The Fiesta, with its strange Cuban orchestras, with tho fiery Lupe doing the “rumba,” and the wealth of colour that is Havana’s, is especially interesting. Into this drama of love and adventure has been injected many deft human touches. Lupe Velez is seen in a role that she has not had for some time, and her captivating manner, piquant charm, and clever dancing in the Cuban episodes, are outstanding. Comedy is taken caro of by Ernest Torrence and Jimmy Durnnto, as Tibbett’s two fighting marine companions. KOSY THEATRE. , PARAMOUNT’S LATEST, “HONOUR AMONG LOVERS.” - Claudette Colbert and Fredrick March, last scon together in that stirring drama, “Manslaughter,” aro co-starrcd in the now Paramount comedy drama, “Honour Among Lovers,” at tho Kosy to-day with “Only tho Bravo.” Also prominently cast in this picturo and lending; a gay note to the proceedings are Charlie Rugglcs and Ginger Rogers. It is an intensely interesting story which builds dramatic suspense with each succeeding sequence. Briefly it tolls tho story a young girl, a secretary to a young and woalthy Wall Street financier, who marries another man, only to discover that sho has always really been in love with her employer. Tho skilful manner in which tho plot, is worked out and tho unexpected developments that occur when the girl’s husband is caught in tho Wall street crash, mako for dramatic entertainment of the first rank. Throughout, Charles Ruggles, in his best rolo since “Tho Lady Lies,” and his beautiful but dumb girl friend, Ginger Rogers, sock liquid refreshment and do countless funny things in tho best approved manner. These two contribute somo of tho best comedy moments soon oh tho audiblo screen for some time. Tho acting is admirable.' Claudette Colbert, fast becoming one of the screen’s best liked actrosses, is charming and believable as tho girl who marries ono man and discovers almost immediately that sho is in lovo with another.
