THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. A cyclone is still centred north of Chatham Island, but is now moving away. Pressure is high over southern Australia, while a depression covers the Tasman Sea. Winds tending northerly and freshening. Seas: Still a considerable southerly swell south of East Cape, but decreasing; elsewhere smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Freshening northerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea and rising seas. Weather fair to fine at first and warmer; later becoming unsettled in western districts, with rain developing and extending gradually to other parts. DISTRICT REPORT. UNSETTLED CONDITIONS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: —The indications are for northerly winds, moderate to strong, and backing by north to west or southwest after about 16 hours. The weather appears likely to be oloudy and unsettled, with some electrical disturbances. The barometer is unsteady. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—sft.
