FALL FROM LORRY.
BOYS ACCIDENTAL DEATH. A formal verdict of accidental death was returned by the Coroner (Mr A. J. Graham) at the inquest held to-day concerning the death of John Pallister,. a young boy who succumbed to injuries received through falling out of and being run over by a motor lorry at Oroua Downs on iebruary 20. F. J. Moffatt, fanner, of Oroua Downs, stated that the boy was three years and nine months of age and his parents resided at Petone. Deceased had been staying with him since New Year’s Eve and had been in the habit of riding in the cab of the motor lorry with witness. On the morning of February 20 deceased. and three children of witness were riding in the lorry and deceased was standing on the extreme left of the cab. There was ample room. Three chains from the Foxton side of the Oroua Downs Hall the left hand door of the cab swung open, prior to which witness had been travelling at 16 to 20 miles an hour. Witness immediately stopped the vehicle and saw the boy lying on the road. It appeared that the rear wheel, had passed over the lower part of his body. He was taken to. the hospital as soon as possible. Witness was of the opinion that the hoy must have pressed the lever down for the door to swing open. If he had hold of the lever then he would be pulled out. There was no defect in any part of the lorry. Dr. Ward, medical superintendent of the Palmerston North Hospital, said deceased was admitted at 11 a.m. on February 20 in a profound state .of shock and suffering from internal injuries. He failed to rally and died at noon from his injuries. The Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death due to shock associated with internal injuries received through-, falling out of a motor lorry.
