RARE STAMP.
GRAF ZEPPELIN’S POLAR MAIL. Mr Hans Hasenpflug. of Sydney, has in his possession a stamp which he believes to be the only one of its kind in Australia. It is on a postcard, posted on behalf of his father, by an officer of the Graf Zeppelin during the giant airship’s North Polar flight. _ It is a blue two-mark stamp bearing an impression of the airship descending* towards the top of the globe. There is a touch of the romantic in the actual journeyings of the postcard. Mr Hasenpflug’s father supplied the leather upholstery of the airship’s nttings. Through his friendship with one of the officers the postcard was taken on board the Graf Zeppelin atFriederichshafen, and went northwards on the Arctic flight. During the voyage it was posted in the airship’s mail office and transhipped to a Norwegian mail depot. Thence it travelled to England and on to Australia by steamer. Three months elapsed before the postcard reached its destination.
