OPIUM DEN RAIDED.
Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 24. Detectives raided- an opium den 'in Grey’s Avenue last night and'arrested four men and seized a considerable quantity of opium, which was hidden in! the ceiling. Ah Chan, aged 38, a laundryman, described as a hopeless addict, was to-day fined £l5O for being the occupier of the premises to which the police gained entry. Three other Chinese were fined £l2 10s for being on, the premises. The hauL of opium Wa's the largest made by the police for several years. Small packets were found which the. police said were sold for 5s each, also six elaborate smoking
