REMOVAL OF POWER POLES.

QUESTION OF LIABILITY. AUCKLAND, Feb. 22. Last November judgment was given against the Waitemata County Council in an action to determine whether a local body or an electric power board is responsible for the removal of power poles during the construction of roads. The solicitor for the council did not accept the view expressed in the judgment, and this view was also supported by a written opinion given to. the Counties’ Association by its* solicitor. As the ■ question was one of Dominion importance, the New Zealand Counties’ Association was asked to bear the costs of an’appeal, but no satisfaction was received.

At the Waitemata County meeting the clerk reported that all the councils in New Zealand had been circularised and asked for assistance, and there had been a splendid response. It was resolved to lodge an appeal accordingly.
