THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST, The cyclone responsible for the recent disturbed weather is centred north of Chatham Islands, and is very deep. 'A rather deep depression is located over the south-west Tasman Sea. Winds moderate to strong south-west to south-east, decreasing gradually and later tending northerly. Seas: A heavy easterly swell on the East Coast south of' East Cape; otherwise smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Moderate to strong east to north winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, and moderate but rising seas. Weather still cloudy with much mist or fog and some showers in most districts, but especially eastern; a gradual but probably temporary improvement should, however, take place. DISTRICT REPORT. FAIR WEATHER PROSPECTS. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for moderate southerly winds, veering by west to north. There Is a prospect of fair weather. The barometer shows little movement. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —oft 9ins.
