A COLOSSAL CHRISTUS to stand sentinel over Rio de Janeiro. This monument, 98 feet high and weighing 1700 tons, has been erected on the peak of Corcovado, 2600 feet above the bay, at a cost of £IBO,OOO. It was solemnly dedicated in the presence of over 50 bishops from all parts of America, and in the evening was floodlit, when Marchese Marconi transmitted a wireless signal from Rome.
