MILSON.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) MILSON, Feb. 21. A special meeting of the Milson School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening. The chairman, Mr T. Crocker, presided and also present were Messrs Thompson, - Wright, Taylor and Bulmer (secretary). The arrangements for the school sports and picnic on Friday next were reported to be well in hand, and, given fine weather, a delightful day’s outing is assured. The committeo decided to supply hot water, milk, and sugar. Toys, cordials, fruit, and sweets will be provided for tho children. This has been mado possible by gifts from various donors. A varied programme of sports events has been drawn up. It was decided to timber the sides nnd bottom of tho drains surrounding the school grounds in order to prevent erosion. The attention of members was drawn to the depredation caused by cattle consuming tho young hedges recently planted, and it was decided to erect a wire netting over the existing wire fenco to counteract this. The additional classroom has increased the amount of work performed by the person who cleans the rooms, and an increase of 25 per cent was made|in the remuneration. A letter was received Horn the Wanganui Education Board intimating that it had now decided to pay the deferred, subsidy on the voluntary subscriptions which were made in 1929 for improvements to tho school grounds. The resignation of Mr Crocker was accented, nnd Mr R. Thompson was elected-chairman. Steps are being taken by the committeo to enable all children to be taught to swim. All sports fixtures arranged for the week-end were cancelled owing to the rain. The Tennis Club have a match with Fire Brigade for next week-end, whilo the Cricket Club will probably journey to Bulls.

The warm showers experienced in this district over the last few days have already had a marked effect on pastures. Young green shoots readily responded, and the value to growing crops, is inestimable.
