SECOND ROTORUA TOURNAMENT. PROGRESS OF PALMERSTON PAIR. (By Telegraph—Special to Standard.) ROTORUA, Feb. 22. The second Rotorua bowling tournament opened this morning in fine but windy weather. The greens were rather heavy after several hours of rain on Saturday and showers on Sunday. The event this year is a pairs tournament, the entries totalling .22. The president, Mr T. Kelly, in opening the tournament referred to the presence of a number of players, including the Palmerston North pair, the presence of all of whom was almost a recognised affair at this gathering. In the first round, Palmerston North (J. H. Nash and C. D. Fraser) met the Dee brothers (Nelson) and, drawing consistently, won the game easily by 32-17. . x In their second match against M. Walker (Auckland) tight play ensued. After eight heads the score 7—6 against Palmerston North. Walker struck his best form, driving and drawing with unerring accuracy, and he forged ahead and won by 27 —14. The last game of the day against Maingay (To Aroha) resulted in ail easy win for the Palmerston North pair after the game had been 13rall at the fourteenth head, Palmerston North scoring on all the remainder except one, to win by 26 —14. NORTHERN AVIN DIXON CUP. A rink from the Northern Bowling Club, challenged Pahiatua for ■’lie Dixon Cup on Saturday and were successful after a close and exciting finish. The final score was 22—20 in favour of the visitors. The teams were: Pahiatua: AA r . Britland. A. W. Bisset. P. A. Bis-set, and H. Paterson (skip). Northern: Dickel, Moxon, Stuart and Bryan (skip). The green was very heavy after the recent rain, though no rain fell during the play. It was a very even match until the fourteenth head when Paliiatua drew away. AVith three heads to play they were six up, but Northern got a 5 on the 19th head, placing them only one behind the holders. They won the 20th head one tip, and so were level. The deciding head, the 21st, the visitors also captured by two, thus winning the trophy 22 —20. VETERANS’ MATCH. Terrace End Bowling Club veterans challenged those from the Northern Club for the A r eterans’ Vase yesterday afternoon, and the result was as follows, the Northern rink being mentioned first: —Johnston, Robinson, Palmer R. Stallard (skip) 22 v. Troy, Thomas, Rennett, AVallace (skip) 19. The scores were 19 all on the 19th head, but Northern won the next two to make their position secure.
