RONGOTEA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, Feb. 22. The Ron go to a Methodist Sunday School held its picnic on- Saturday. Owing to the threatening 6tate of the weather it was held on the school grounds, instead of at the river, as was planned. Under the leadership of Mr T. Major, amusement and sport wore provided for all. the smaller childron, as usual, being especially 'provided for. . Races and games of all descriptions and frequent scrambles maintained the interest from start to finish. Among other events the young women’s race was won by Miss M. Smith, Miss M. Hunt being second. The young men’s race was won by D. Print, with W. Pinkerton second. An adjournment was made to the Sunday school hall, late in the afternoon, where Miss G. Bennett and helpers dispensed tea. Hearty votes of thanks were passed to Messrs A. Mader and J. C. Glover, for the gifts of sweets, nuts, etc., also to parents and teachers for assistance in making the gathering such a splendid success. Steady rain set in on Saturday evening, and continued during the night. Already its effects can be noted in the paddocks, growth has commenced, and tho benofit will be felt at once. Crops of mangolds and swedes were almost at a standstill, but tho rain has come in time to give them a fresh 6tart, and tho prospects for winter feed are distinctly brighter. In the flower garden the dahlias in particular have benefited by the rain and there is still time to develop blooms for the shows next month.
