THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. The cyclone responsible for the recent rains is now centred north of Chatham Islands. _ A depression of the westerly type is crossing the South Tasman Sea. Between south and west and moderate to strong winds, varying later to north-west m places. Seas rather rough to rough generally in New Zealand waters. Aloderate to strong south-west to north-west winds, seas rather rough to rough in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still cloudy and showery, but improving somewhat in eastern districts; temperatures cooler.
DISTRICT REPORT.
COOL AND CHANGEABLE. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: Tho indications are for southerly winds, moderate to strojig. The weather will probably be coo( and changeable, with some scattered showers, but a temporary improvement may be expected soon. The barometer is unsteady. AIANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —7ft. 6ins.
