The butter market has shown a mark-: ed improvement in the past fortnight. Prices of Australian and New Zealand have hardened by eight to ten shillings. The main cause of the advance is the heavy Continental demand. Production on the Continent is now tat its lowest, and as the consumption there has increased recently European countries have been compelled to buy heavily hot only Danish, but also New Zealand, Australian and Argentine. Sinoe the import restrictions were imposed by France the price® there have risen so high that permission has been given to increase the amount which may be imported this quarter from 12,000 tons to 24,000.
