’PLANE CRASHES
MR C. ULM IN MISHAP. MACHINE HITS POWER LINES. ESCAPE PROM ELECTROCUTION. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.— Copyright.) Received February 22, 10 a.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 22. Mr Charles Ulm and Mr J. Kerr were severely injured when a ’plane crashed into electric power transmission lines at Laverton yesterday. Both received concussion and burns. They were saved from electrocution by the automatic devices at each end of the lines, which immediately cut off the power at the impact.
The engine of the ’plane was thrown 40 yards away. The petrol tank, which burst into flames, was torn loose and fell about ten feet from the ’plane, in which Messrs Ulm and Kerr were strapped.
