FOXTON
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, Feb. 19. Misses E. and M. Barber returned home ion Wednesday from an enjoyable holiday 6pont in Wellington. Mr and Mrs W. Brown have roturned to Foxton and have taken up their residence in Thynne Street. The friends of Mr J. Martin will regret to learn that he is at present confined to his home and underwent a minor operation yesterday. Mr J. Newton, who has been confined to his bed for the past week, is now about again. Rain fell last evening and during the night, and was most welcome. This is the 'first rain that has been experienced here for some weeks. A number of houses depending on rainfall for water supplies have been out of water for some time and greatly inconvenienced. On Thursday Mr W. T. Jewell (president of the Foxton Sports Club) visited Wanganui and at a special meeting of the Wanganui Committee of the New Zealand Racing Conferonco presented the petition signed by seven local residents asking for permission to hold a horse sports meeting locally at an early date. The committee decided to recommend tho application and approved of tho programme which was submitted. Iri furtherance of the application Mr Jewell loft for Wellington this morning to place the petition before the secretary of the Racing Conference.
