CENTRE PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP. PLAY IN SEMI-FINALS. Play in the annual champion of champion pairs competition of the Manawatu .Bowling Centre did tot' reach tho final on Saturday, only the two semi-finals being decided. The final between Palmerston North (Mow-! lem and Bary, skip) and Terrace End (Christiansen and Johnson, skip) will, be contested a£ a date to be arranged later. Mr A. F. Wimsett conducted the competition with his customary efficiency. The matches were played on the Terrace End green. The bowling was very poor, especially by the leads, none being up to the standard expected in champion of champion games, this no doubt being due to the weather conditions which severely affected the playing qualities of the greens. Additional results were as follow: SECOND ROUND. Terrace End (Christiansen and Johnson. skip) 27 v. Feilding (Williamson ana Ramsey, skip) 17. Palmerston .North (Mowlem and Bary, skip) 34 v. Shannon (Moakes and Morgan, skip) 9. Levin (Laggelan and Monk, skip) 22 v. Eketahuna (Weeks and Means, skip) 17. iUanawatu (Gilbert and Barnes, skip) 19 v. Dannevirke (Osborne and Tatere, skip) 21. This game went to an extra head after the score had been 19 all in the 21st. Playing in the semi-final against Dannevirke, the Palmerston North pair had an easy win. Dannevirke opened their account with two on -.lie initial head, but failed to add to it for five successive heads, during which Palmerston North obtained nine points. Dannevirke then scored four singles, and Palmerston North retaliated, with a further 10 points while their opponents’ score remained unaltered for hve heads until they secured a two. Palmerston North led 20 —8 at the end of the 17th head and went on to win comfortably 23 —13. . . There was a remarkably close finish in the other semi-final between Levin and Terrace End. Levin scored a single on the first head, four on the second and another single on the third. They led B—l at the end of +he 6tli head, but then suffered a series of reverses for four heads while Terrace End added a four, then a single, another ■ ' four and another single to assume the lead 11 — : 8 after a splendid recovery. Levin scored on the next two heads and were leading 17 16 at the end of tho 17th head.. Fortunes fluctuated, with the margin between the pairs very narrow. Terrace End won 2Cf—l9 after a measure had given them a deciding single by three-six-teenths of an inch on the final head. VISIT TO FEILDING. TERRACE END v. OROUA. McDonald, Dixon, Mason (skip) 18. MANSON AND BARR CUP. EKETAHUNA WIN TROPHY. Tho Eketahuna Club presented a challenge for the Manson and Barr Cup on Saturday and, after a close and interesting struggle, defeated the Palmerston North Club (the holders) by one point. At the final head Palmerston were two down and although Kerslake, the home skip, made a big effort to save the day by drawing his first shot, he narrowly missed with his second to leavo tb© honours with tho visitors.
