ELECTION OF 1927. The last Irish Free State election on September 15, 1927, resulted in the : Government ■, gaining 12 seats, which left it with four votes more than Mr de Valera’s (Fianna Fail) party. .The final figures for the 152 seats in the Dail were:
The members of the Dail are elected by secret ballot and by direct vote of all citizens of either sex above the age of 21 years. Tire House consists of not less than one member for each 30,010 of the population and not more than one member for each 20,000 of the population. SEDITIOUS LIBEL CHARGES. PUBLIC SAFETY ACT. Received February 18, 10.0 a.m. DUBLIN, Feb. 17. The Fianna Fail newspaper, the Irish Press, and the editor, Mr Frank Gallagher, were convicted under the Public Safety Act on four charges of seditious libel. Both were fined £IOO. , ELECTION CAMPAIGN. WITTY PARTY POSTER. DUBLIN, Feb. 16. Considerable humour has been imported into the election campaign, including a witty Government party poster, headed, “Dewy’s Circus — the Greatest Rogue Show in Ireland To-day,” featuring “Signor de Valera, the world-famous illusionist, oath-swallower, and, escapologist.’ “See,” says the poster, “his renowned act entitled ‘escaping from the Straitjacket of the Republic.’ Everyone mystified.” ,
