PRICE OF SILVER

UNITED STATES AND INDIA. WASHINGTON. Dec. o. Mr Silas H. Strawn, president,of the United States Chamber of Commerce, to-day announced plans for an export sales agreement between the United States silver producers and the Government of India to increase the price of silver. Mr Strawn told the Western Division Convention of the United States Chamber that the plans were worked out by an experts’ committee lof the International Chamber of Commerce, and will be submitted to the International Chamber of Commerce Council when it meets in Paris on March 1. He intimated that, he expected favourable action at Paris. Senator Pittman telegraphed to the president of the Silver Association of the United States at Spokane to-day to tlie effect that the agreement between tiie silver producers and India for'stabilising the price of silver w r as impossible of accomplishment. “Stabilisation can only be achieved through international agreement to stop debasing the metal or melting up circulating silver coin,” he said.
