DIET TRACK MEETING

WEDNESDAY EVENING. I Wednesday night will see the PalmerIston North cinder-shifters on the track I again and, if the riding revealed at the I initial mooting held during show week is any criterion of the standard to bo dis- | played, then tho public are in for a parti[cularly thrillng time. A special practice is being held at tho Oval this evening and on | Wednesday evening tho Manawatu Speedways will open tho 1931-32 season with a vast array of talent. Howard Tolley, Eric Whittle, Roy Vining and Gower are names to be reckoned with now and in addition there are several men residing in the district who will help carry tho colours during tho forthcoming moetings. Thero is a prospect of a splendid list of overseas riders Doing available, while there is promiso of a first-class speedway meeting at the Showgrounds on Wednesday night for a start, all being in good form and tho track in firstclass order. Tho management has. been to a great deal of trouble to make the going as good as possible. A road grader has been put over the course and all the cinders scroencd. Finally a 15 tons roller was used to roll tho track down. Howard Tolley is now tho owner of ono of the fastest bicycles in Now Zealand, and much is expected of him. Gower did well in Wellington recently and is riding again on Wednesday.' His progress at Kilbirnio was also watched with interest. Whittlo is also going well and of the other riders, Vining has a new bicycle. All roads will lead to tho Palmerston North Showgrounds on Wednesday night when a record crowd is expected to receive first-class eentertainment. RACES AT KILBIRNIE. Per Press Association. Crashes and machine trouble spoiled several races, but fortunately nobody was hurt.

AUCKLAND SEASON OPENS.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 5. The third season of broadsiding commenced at Western Springs Speedway last evening. The Wellington champion, W. Kilmister, twice defeated A. Mattson, Auckland and Dominion champion, in match races, on each occasion taking the lead at the first bend. He also won the Big Nine Championship. Results were as follow :—-

Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. A special match race between two visiting English riders, S. Jackson and W. Hull, was the chief item of interest at the broadsiding races at the Monica Park Speedway on Saturday night. Results are as follow : First division handicap, final: S. Wicks (16sec.), 1; P. Lunn (lsec.), 2; J. Roscoe (6sec.), 3. Woolston scratch race: N. Gray, 1; P. Lunn, 2; J. Oakley, 3. Time, lmin. 25 4-ssec.

English match race. —First heat: S. Jackson, 1; W. Hull, 2. Time, lmin. 22sec. Second heat: Jackson, 1; Hull, 2. Time, lmin. 22 2-ssec. Jackson led all the way in both heats.
