WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT.
FOUND DEAD IN BAND ROOii. It came as a distinct shock to the community this morning to learn that 3ir M‘. New lands, a weii-knflwn public accountant and secretary to various organisations, had been found dead. { Iso gentlemen had occasion to enter the Band Hail this morning to secure seme scenery and while inside the building they found the body of 3ir j Newianas in an ante-room. The police ; were immediately communicated with ' and medical attention. sougfit, hut : while the body was still warm, the doctor could only pronounce liie .extinct. It is understood that death was due to gas poisoning. Air Newlands had been resident in Palmerson North for quite a number of years, having been for varying periods accountant for 3lessrs C. buhl. Ltd.. 3lain Street and later ior • Messrs 31. A. Eliott and Coy., Ltd., | prior to commencing business on his j own account as a public accountant. I In the latter capacity 3Lr Newlands was secretary to the Palmerston North River Board, the Palmerston North Fire Board, the 31anaw&tu Conpeti- j tions Society and the Garrison Band, while he had always taken a keen interest in matters of interest and was an old member of the Orpheus Society.
