THE UNEMPLOYED.
YTORK FOR CHRISTMAS!. The weekly meeting of the Unemployment Committee was held this morning when 3lr J. A. Nash, 31. P., presided. Others present were : Messrs Mansford, Batchelar, Coliis, Watson, Graham, Hodgens and Lowden (secretary). Following upon the reading of a letter from the Commissioner concerning seasonal workers, it was considered that it would be preferable that these men should be treated under the same classification as waterside-workers and it 'was decided to advise the Unemployment Board accordingly. Ten applications under 4A scheme were considered, one peing held over pending the completion ot the terms of payment to the enqployee. The secretary reported that the allocation for the present week was in 68, which would furnish work for 838 married men, while 790 would be given a third day. The a|location for the week ending Decembar 19 was £1620, and Mr Lowden mentioned that he hoped to give every married man a third day before Christmas. At the present time there were 1400 working (not including the 4A men) while 260 single men had been given employment. I
