CHILDREN’S CALF CLUBS.

LONGBURN GROUP JUDGING. Yesterday saw the commencement of the judging in connection with the Longburn group of. the schools’ calfrearing competitions, both in the dairy type class and tho section for good rearing. The entries were very good, coming from the Kairanga, Longburn and Rangiotu schools. The judges were Messrs D. Buick (Cloverlea), the well-known Shorthorn breeder, who awarded the points in the rearing class, and Mr T. Hanford (Whakarongo), breeder of well-known Jerseys, who placed the calves according to type. Both expressed themselves as ’highly pleased with the quality of the calves, and Mr D. Buchanan, group supervisor, who held a similar position last year and so was able to make comparisons, gave it as his opinion that the calves this year were much ahead of last year’s. Ho was exceedingly pleased with the progress made and the quality of the calves.

The placings yesterday were as follow, the final to bo decided on Thursday next:—

Kairanga.—Bearing: Freda Eglinton 1, Trevor Terry 2, Maurice Terry 3, Jean Tantrum 4. Type : P. Small 1, G. Hyde 2, E. Teague 3, R. Clark 4. Longburn.—Rearing: T. Zurcher 1, N Wilson 2, Jean Clark 3, Betty Wilson 4. Type: T. Zurcher 1, N. Wilson 2, M. Sherriff 3, A. Wilson 4. Rangiotu.—Rearing: D. Beard 1, D. Donaldson 2, G. Strawbridge 3, T. Strawbridge 4. Type: D. Beard 1, E. Donaldson 2, D. Donaldson 3, G. Strawbridge 4.
