CRAFTS OF ENGLAND.
REVIVAL TO MEET DEMAND. A remarkable revival lias been noted this year in the ancient handicraft industries of Britain. Almost forgotten crafts of the countryside are being revived under tho guidance of craftsmens guilds which have been set up in many agricultural areas. British handicraft workers are demonstrating that there is a demand in the homo and foreign markets for the products of skilful hands. In Sussex, Kent and Hampshire especially, workers are rallying to the guilds. . . The new movement is not confined solely to the preservation of existing crafts. Many industries, such as handweaving which had been almost completely lost to the country, are no!w in process of revival. Visitors to this year’s agricultural shows have been impressed by the homespuns and tweeds, curtains and colourful dress materials, the products of blacksmiths, wheelwrights, saddlers, wood carvers, potters and toy makers all wrought in and around the rural homes of England.
