DEFEATED IN UPPER HOUSE.

PREMIER’S BILL REJECTED

Received December 2, 9.0 a.m. SYDNEY, Dec. 2. The Government was defeated on five occasions in the Upper House •early this morning. Each time the Hubour group, led by Mr Coates, voted against the Government.

The Council rejected the Local Government Elections Bill, which provides for the postponement of the municipal elections in the proposed Greater Sydney area. The elections were fixed for next Saturday, but Mr Lang introduced a Bill to have them postponed, as far as the county of Cumberland is concerned, until after the Federal elections. THE NEW MEMBERS. The 25 new members of the New South Wales Legislative Council, comprising 23 men and two women, are as under: — J. Kilburn, sec., Bricklayers’ Union. J. J. O’Reilly, member of Clerks’ Union. C.
