WRESTLER ARRESTED.
ALLEGED BREACH OF CONTRACT. WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. Arrested on a warrant issued by the Christchurch Wrestling Association for alleged breach of contract, Tom Alley, ex-light-heavyweight wrestling champion of the world, appeared before Mr 1. B. McNeil, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday morning. Establishing that he had no intention o,f leaving the country. Alley paid a certain sum into Court, and was released until the hearing of the dispute. It was alleged that Alley had committed a breach of his contract with the Christchurch Wrestling Association in that he failed to meet Scotty McDougall at Christchurch on November 9. The association contended that by reason of this it had incurred expenses, involving hire of hall and advertising, totalling £54. A summons for that amount had been issued. It was explained by counsel for Alley that the writ had been executed that day to prevent him from embarking on the Makura bound for San Francisco, but there was no intention on his part to leave the country. The association wished the dispute to be settled before Alley left New Zealand, and for that reason had acted in that belief. The Magistrate intimated that the Christchurch Wrestling Association must dispose of the matter before December 15 to enable Alley to leave in time to fulfil his American engagements. A further writ issued by Billy Meeske, also alleging breach of contract on the part of Alley, was ordered by the Magistrate to be .executed only in the event of Aliev leaving the country. This writ was taken out on the ground that Alley allegedly failed to carry out his contract to meet Meeske" for the light-heavvweight championshio of the world. The sheriff went down to the Makura just prior to her departure for San Francisco yesterday afternoon and satisfied himself that Alley was not sailing on the boat. Further inquiries elicited the information that Alley was out at Trentham paying his respects to Phar Lap.
