FOXTON, Dec. 1. The winners of the school exhibits judged in conjunction with the recent Horticultural Show were as follow:—Writing: Standard 1,-K. Adams 1, W. Doreen 2; Standard II: Joyce McKenzie 1, Winnie Murray and Huia Harper 2; Standard III: Jean Austin 1, Marjery .Mariott 2; Standard IV: G. Yardley 1, T 7 Devonshire 2; Standard V (Form 1) : S. Roore 1, B. Staff 2; Standard VI (Forms II) : F. Roore 1, B. Botaroff 2. Coloured design: V. Botaroff 1. Modelling: Standard II: Helen Murray 1, Melva King 2; Standard ni: Leslie Pracy 1, Leo King 2; Standard IV: Ethel Walls 1, Tom Devonshire 2. Carton Work: Nola Chaffey 1, Rangi Thompson 2. Last Saturday afternoon marked the opening sorics of tho local cahmpionship matches for tho Austin Shield. The Foxton team journeyed to Oroua Downs defeating the neighbouring district’s team by 91 runs to 87. The Druids and Fire Brigade were engaged on Easton Park, the former winning also by a small margin of runs. FOXTON, Dec. 2. The annual report of the Foxton Surf and Life Saving Club states that the club, which has been in existence for two years, has proved a great asset to the local beach. Altogether nine persons have been rescued sinco the club commenced it 3 activities. Every endeavour is being made by club members to have the pavilion completed in timo for the coming season. This season the club will have two patrols on tho beach, both of which will be equipped efficiently with the necessary life saving gear. The financial position of tho club is very satisfactory, but nevertheless further support is necessary to enable members to maintain thoir good work as the club relies solely on subscriptions and donations for its funds. A splendid programme was given to a good audience on Monday night on the occasion of the Salvation Army children’s anniversary. Mr Mairs acted ss chairman. Special mention should bo made of tho primary items which illustrated the Good Samaritan and the “Old Folks Rhu-ma-tiz song.” The Bible Class girls were recalled for their 6ailor 6ong. Misses Nina and Violet Botaroff contributed a pianoforte solo and duet for which they received an enoore. The tableaux, “Little Mary,” was particularly effective and highly appreciated. The prizes were presented by the chairman and the Benediction brought a closo to an enjoyable evening.
