RACING NEWS.

FROM STABLE AND COURSE.

(By “Binocular.”)

Awnpuni horses captured £617 10s in stake money at the Feilding meeting. King Colossus -was responsible for £235 as tho result of hie success in the Cup. Arrow Lad pulled his way to the front in tho Cup, yet despite the effort entailed tho Arrowsmith gelding made a big bid to snatch the honours from King Colossus. On the second day ho was kept in behind and then came in time to head off High I<'a lutin’, who ran a surprisingly good race.

At recent fixtures Awapuni has been poorly represented ir: the jumping events, but Warzone displayed consistency at Feilding by running second each day—her fourth second placing since she won the Kapiti Hurdles at Levin. Conjurer 11. showed promiso of bettor things by running third at his one start—on tho second day.

In September last year King Colossus won the Avondale Stakes to place him on the credit side of tho ledger for the season, and lut has gone on to still better things this turm, his stake earnings for the new season already amounting to £550 from two firsts and two seconds.

Since their entry upon their racing careor Inflation and La. Modorne, two-year-old members of Mrs McDonald's team, have been proving well above tho averago. The dead-heat of Inflation with Laughing I’rinco in tho Feilding Stakes enabled tho Paper Money colt to carry his stake winnings to £547 10s to date. La Moderne, who has got on tlio winning list but once although she has run second on five occasions, has £445 standing to her credit. Tho field in tho jumping events at Feilding differed materially from that which Tcnacre had accounted for at Levin, but the Acre gelding proved capable of again leading the field home, despite his steadier of 11.13. It was by no means a hollow victory, but Tenacre carried his burden very gamely. Easterly was confidently expected to play a part in the jumping role at Feilding after her showing on the flat at Levin, but she did not go at all kindly and was out of tho finish each day. Possibly she found tho track a trifle hard for her and bettor things can be looked for when the going is a little easier. When two furlongs from homo Lady Pam looked a possible winner in tho Foilding Cup, but tlio fast paco which had been set by Arrow Lad and tho fact that sho was carrying 9.6, told their talo when tho pressure was applied. Although-there was a substantial gap between Arrow Lad (the second placed horse) and Lady Pam, the Limond mare ran a great race. F. Tilley, the Fordell mentor, lias a happy knack of presenting his team ready for racing and an instance of this was forthcoming on the second day at Feilding when High Falutin’, who was making his first appearance for the season, nearly brought off a big surprise in tho St. Andrew’s Handicap. Tho second outsider of the field of nine runners, it was only in tho last couple of strides that he was beaten for tho major honours. Pillow Fight, who has been backed only to be beaten on two or three occasions in his young career, made amends in tho Oroua Nursery Handicap on tlio second day. A fine type of a colt by Night Raid, he carried almost half the investments and did not cause his host of backers any real concern. R. Reed, his pilot on this occasion, had him nicely enough placed oarly and ho finished full of running. More should be > heard of him later on.

It was pleasing to find owner-trainer E. Penman enjoying fortune’s smile by way of a change, for Saltpob had disappointed him more than once despite his excellent work on the tracks. Transferred to distance company at Feilding, tho Aus-tralian-bred gelding recorded an attractive performance by going to the front early on tho opening day and staying there to the close. His rider attempted to repeat the tactics on the second day, but Grand Jury proved to be just a little too good for him. It was nevertheless, a promising start in the new role. Two of the Feilding Stake runners, Aston and Cimabue, returned to the open sprint company on tho socond day to attend one another homo as the dividendr payers in the Colylon Handicap. Condition were hardly favourable for the doubtful-winded Aston, but the Irish-bred gelding saw out tho six furlongs in good style. However, there is no gainsaying but that Cimabue was the unlucky runner, for after being sent back to tho rear of tho field three furlongs from home the Leighton gelding was only half a neck away at the finish. Tiie first and second horses in the Nikau Hack Handicap on tho second day were hacks who were running out their nominations. Korokio, the N.Z. Oaks winner, returned to sprint distances in strik-

ing fashion from Leisure, who was at a long price. Both candidates carried lovol weights, 9.7, and although widoly drawn at tho barrier wero next each other in 13th and 12th positions respectively. It was consequently a chapter of associations.

WOODVILLE JOCKEY CLUB.

CLOSING OF 'ACCEPTANCES,

Owners and trainers are reminded that acceptances for all tho first day’s events (including tho Trial Plate) at tho Woodvillo meeting close at nine o’clock on Friday night. MANAWATU MEETING. CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME. In common with all other sister clubs throughout the Dominion, the Manawatu Racing Club has found it necessary to reduce the amount of prize money to bo offered at its Christians fixture. Nevertheless. it should prove a very attractive gathering for owners, and in all probability there will bo a number of South Island mentors in attendance in addition to tho contingent nearer at home. Tho programme is identical with that of preceding years. The Manawatu Cup, one and a-half miles, carries a stake of £SOO, and the Fitzherbert Handicap, the first day’s sprint, a stake of £175. The open handicaps on the second and third days, the President’s Handicap, II miles, and the Liverpool Handicap, nino furlongs, respectively, are reduced to £250 and £2OO (£SOO and £4OO last year). Tho sprints on these days, the Awapuni Handicap and the Kawau Handicap respectively, have stakes of £l4O and £lls (£250 and £225 last -year). The Palmerston North Stakes, six furlongs at weight-for-ago, carries £SOO, tho hurdles £IOO each, and the hack evonts between £lls and £IOO. No stake (including that for Maidon Plate) is less than £IOO. Nominations are due on December 4.

OWNERSHIP QUESTION,

TWO MEN DISQUALIFIED.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 1.

Finding E. O. 6. Boyd and C. W. Boyd guilty of corrupt practice by the concealment of the real ownership of the horses, Spearform and Mandate, the three judges appointed by the executive committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference have disqualified the former for one year from November 30, and the latter for two years. The allegations were previously considered by the Wanganui district committee, who found that the two horses were owned and registered by E. O. C. Boyd. The committee’s decision added that the members “viewed with great disfavour the way tho horses have been raced and controlled by C. W. Boyd since August, 1929, under authority from E. O. C. Boyd.” After considering a technical point referred to by tho W’anganui committee, tho judges ruled that tho question bo dealt with as an appeal. Tho evidenco from Wanganui was considered, and the judges heard tho testimony of C. W. Boyd and his son, E. 0. C. Boyd. The finding contains the following:—“Wo have come to the conclusion that the evidence establishes beyond question that C. W. Boyd is in fact the real owner of Spearform and Mandate, and that the registration of E. O. C. Boyd as owner was nothing but a device instigated by C. W. Boyd to escape disabilities which prevented him from racing tho horses in his own name. Such action amounts to corrupt practice. Inasmuch as E. 0. C. Boyd consented to the deception, wo find both C. W. Boyd and E. 0. C. Boyd guilty of corrupt practices.”
