BOILER EXPLOSION.
FOXTON RESIDENT INJURED. (From Our Own Correspondent). FOXTON. Dec. 1. As the result of boiler tubes blowing out in a traction engine, Mr William Lovett, of Lady’s Mile, Foxton, received painful injuries to his face which necessitated his removal to t!7e Palmerston North Hospital. Mr Levett was employed to drive a traction engine, which had been used locally for hauling timber, to the Marton district where work was to be commenced on a fresh belt of timber. Mr Levett left Foxton early on Friday morning and reached Marton ' safely that evening. The next morning he was preparing for the last stage of the journey and when tightening up some bolts near the firebox the boiler tubes blew out and he was enveloped in steam and ashes. His face was badly scalded from the steam and it was at first feared that his eye-sight had been impaired by the hot ashes, but reports from the hospital, to which he was admitted on Saturday, are to the effect that he is making good progress towards recovery.
