PROMISES INCAPABLE OF FULFILMENT.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —With your kind permission, Mr Editor, 1 would draw the attention of your numerous readers to the fact that jtfr Hodgens has failed to answer the two or three questions I put to him. Apparently, they are beyond the sidestepping tactics of the Labour Party, which my friend represents. Mr Hodgens is no doubt a fine fellow, but what in the world, Mr Editor, is the use of making fair promises which they must know are impossible to fulfil. They quote past Premiers; why, the circumstances are entirely different. I have been a worker for forty years, and Mr Seddon made many mistakes, such as putting men on the land at Mangaonaho and Makohine. On that land there was not even a crust to be earned. At the workshops in Makohine the notices read thus: "No smoking allowed during working hours," "Visitors qre requested not to talk to the men during working hours." The worker of to-day does not know when lie is well off. Mr Coates and Mr Forbes are every bit equal to any of the past Premiers. We find them wanting, no doubt, but "Worker," if the so-called Labour Party is returned, we will all be wanting, if not starving. Don't forget the old saying, "The devil you know is better than the devil you "don't know." Again, I say, though we hear so many hot-air speeches from the Labour platform, things cannot be righted until we get higher prices for our primary products .in the Old Country.—l am, BON AMI.
