(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received August 21, 10.0 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 21.

In the course of a speech he delivered at Cronulla last evening, Mr T. R. Bavin, Leader of the Opposition, advocated the formation of a non-party Government from all parties of the House to solve the State’s financial and industrial problems. Mr Bavin said that he was prepared to stand aside or take any position allotted to him, and he stipulated that Mr J. T. Lang must not be allowed to bo in such a Government. The position was absolutely critical.

“It is unfortunately true that no Government of which Mr Lang is a member can command the confidence either of this community or tho Loan Council or of tho outside world,” added Mr Bavin.

“HAT IN HAND TO LOAN COUNCIL.”

NEW YORK PAPER’S CRITICISM

NEW YORK, Aug. 19. Tho New York Times, in a leader on the loan conversion, says:—

“Australia means business. She has set herself resolutely on the path of rehabilitation and prosperity. She has maintained her own self-respect. She has acquired honour, and perhaps provoked envy in the eyes of other nations.”

Tho newspaper refers to the activities of Mr Lang, and adds: “Even obstreperous Mr Lang had to learn meekness. He had to come hat in hand to the Loan Council.”
