MORTALITY AMONG SHEEP.
LOSSES IN MANAWATU. (By Telegraph.— Special to Standard.' _ WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. The attention of the Minister of Agriculture was'directed by Mr J. Linklater tn the House of Representatives this afternoon to the serious losses to the flock-owners of the Manawatu and Ran gitikei districts through a disease among sheep. The member asked what steps were being taken by the department to assist farmers to cope with the situation. Hon. A. J. Murdoch replied that the disease was commonly called sleepinsickness, and it had occurred in seven i districts of the Manawatu and Oroua a: intervals.
