RESTORATION POLL
MOVE AT INVERCARGILL. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 19. At a meeting of the executive of the Invercargill Restoration and Progress League this evening, it was decided to make strong representations to the Government to have a restoration poll taken in Invercargill this year. Telegrams have been dispatched to every member of Parliament acquainting them of the position in Invercargill. The league has offered to guaranteee the expenses of taking a local option poll in the event of the national issue being postponed. GUARANTEE OF EXPENSES. IF POLL IS HELD. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Aug. 20. The executive of the Restoration League has resolved to guarantee the expenses of taking a licensing poll in Invercargill and has telegraphed all members of Parliament asking for support to the appeal. MOVEMENT IN MASTERTON. , MASTERTON, Aug. 19. A strongly-worded telegram has been dispatched to the Prime Minister, by Mr W. Simpson, Mayor of Eketahuna, protesting against the suggested postponement of the Licensing Poll this year. Mr Simpson has also indicated that he is prepared to take a deputation to Wellington if necessary. Pongaroa is also moving in the matter. Both these districts are in the dry Masterton electorate. At Eketahuna last election 1220 votes were polled in favour of restoration, and 600 againstat Pongaroa voting was for 418, and against 155. Over the whole electorate, however, voting was, 4047, and against 4523, so that the issue was carried in favour of no-license by a majority of 476.
