There are now three candidates in the field for the Manawatu seat in the House of Representatives. Mr J. Linklater (Reform), the sitting member; Mr W. Hunter (Labour); and Mr P. J. Small (United). Mr Small was in Bulls on Monday and met a number ot supporters of the United Party. GENERAL. Farmers are too busy with cows and sheep now to let their families or employees off to pastimes, and football and hockey are now practically finished for this season. Bulls seniors are drawn to meet Halcombe at Bulls on Saturday, but as the competition has been won by Rata Club it is hardly likely that another match will bo played here. Bulls fourths have an engagement at .Marton, playing Old Boys fourths on that day, and this match will probably take place. The ladies’ hockey team has disbanded for the season. Our ladies wore not very successful in the competition, but the majority wero quite new to the game, and will be harder to beat next year. Mr F. F. Ralfe is paying a business visit to Wellington. Mrs Claude Edwards returned from Wanganui Hospital on. Saturady, and is progressing favourably after her recent operation. Mrs M. Kidd is reported to be improving in health, but is still an inmate of the Wanganui Hospital. The Croquet Club’s progressive euchre party, held in the pavilion on Tuesday afternoon, was well attended, and proved very enjoyable. The prize-winner was Miss Marjorie Curtis, of Dannevirke. Misses Mildred and Marjorie Curtis, of “Ngapaeruru,” Dannevirke, who have been spending a holiday with Mrs E. Wilson, returned home on Wednesday. Deep sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Hamilton Russell, of Parewanui, in the lose of their bright boy, McKelvie James, who passed away after a short illness, and who was interred in Clifton cemetery, Bulls.
Bulla and Stanway Ping: Pong Clubs played a return match at Stanway on Tuesday evening, and this time Stanway proved the winners, taking 61 games to Bulls 39. The evening proved very enjoyable, the hospitality of the Stanway Club being greatly appreciated.
