Their Excellencies Lord and Lady Bledisloe are to be extended an invitation by the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association to attend the Spring Show in November. A Press Association message from Gisborne announoes the death ,of Mr Charles Frederick Adair, aged 58, a well-known business man. The Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association today decided to forward letters of sympathy to Mr D. Collis in the illness of Mrs Collis. Mr Harry Weaver, a well-known figure in the public life of North Auckland and a former Mayor of Whangarei, died yesterday in his 69th year. The friends of Mr A. C. Anderson, of Pahiatua Street, will regret to learn that he had. to enter a private liispital last week to undergo an operation. Mr Anderson is now making excellent progress. Mr L. C. Kerr, of the Public Trust Office, Palmerston North, has been promoted to the position of district manager at the Thames office. Mr and Mrs Kerr expect to leave for Thames toward the end of the month. Mr S. G. Heffeman, assistant supervisor of the telegraph branch for the Palmerston North Post Office, will be a delegate from this centre to the conference of the Post and _ Telegraph Officers’ Guild at Wellington on August 25.

Notice of motion was given by Mr D. Buchanan at the meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association to-day to appoint Mr W. McKenzie, of Palmerston North, an honorary life member of the association.

Pupils of the Wasserkuppe Gliding and Sailplaning School Germany, two Aucklanders, Flying Officer C. E. Kay and Mr M. C. Paine, have recently been successful in securing gliding licenses. Flying Officer Kay, who with Flying Officer Piper flew to Australia last year, did particularly well. Tributes to the services of Mr W. D. Carson, of Kai Iwi, as a steward and an energetic worker for the association were paid by the chairman (Mr. L. B. Wall) at the meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association to-day when his resignation from the committee on account of leaving the district was received. It was decided to forward a letter of appreciation to Mr Carson. The death has occurred of Mr William McCormack, a very old resident of Thames and a veteran of the Maori Wars. Mr McCormack was born in Northern Ireland 89 years ago and at the age of 19 he joined the 40th Foot Regimeut in Glasgow. A few years later ho came to New Zealand and settled at Thames, where he took an active part in the search for gold. He always retained a keen interest in military affairs and saw service in the Maori Wars.

Mr W. F. Kent-Johnston, who has been elected president of the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, has been in the service of tho department for 24 years. He was stationed at the Palmerston North Post Office for a year prior to the outbreak of the War m 1914, when he went into camp at Awapuni and later proceeded to Gallipoli. On his return ho resumed service with the department at Auckland, while for the past four or five years he has been at Hamilton, where be is assistant supervisor of the clerical branch.

Mr F.' Campbell, of Wellington, who has been appointed a member of the special committee set up to advise tne Unemployment Board on questions relating to unemployment among women, is keenly interested in the development of New Zealand industries, Mr Canjpbell takes an active part in the work of the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Association, on which organisation he has served as president. He is a sitting member of tho Lower Hutt Borough Council, and for many years past has filled the office of chairman of the New Zealand Football Association. The AVellington Competitions Society is another organisation to which Mr Campbell has given a great deal of his time and assistance. He is a past president of the society.
