THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST.
A rather intense depression of the westerly type has been crossing the Dominion and another one has been situated , over south-east Australia. Moderate to strong south-wost to west winds, of gale force at places. Seas rough on all the western coast and offshore south of Castlepoinf; elsewhere moderate in New Zealand waters. Strong westerly winds and rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. Weather squally and changeable with rain at times in most districts; snow on some of the ranges of the South Island. A temporary improvement may be expected soon in eastern districts. DISTRICT REPORT. FAIR TO CLOUDY. The Government meteorologist wired to-day : —The indications are for northerly moderate to, strong, freshening winds. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather, mild and hazy conditions later, and increasing haze and cloudiness. The barometer is falling MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —Bft. 6ins.
