BOWLING, CROQUET AND TENNIS
MANAWATU CLUB. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Bowling, Croquet and Tennis Club was held last night when the retiring president, Mr*J. B. Gcrrand, was in the chair. There was a large gathering of members. The annual report (previously published in the and bal-ance-sheet were read and adopted on the motion of tlio chairman, seconded by MrAV. Cutler. In speaking to the report the chairman commented that, despite the unfavourable weather and conditions generally, the club had experienced a satisfactory year. The season had been entered upon with a heavy financial handicap, but very satisfactory arrangements in respect to effecting reductions in expenditure had been introduced with appreciable results. Sinoe the preparation of the balancesheet the amount of £5 12s out of a total of £23 in outstanding subscriptions had como to hand, and the latter amount not having been included in the balance-sheet., as an asset, the budget had been practically balanced. Mr Corbridge commented that the club’s share in the building improvements had not been included in the balance-sheet, tho chairman stating in reply that, while probably some £BOO had been expended by the club since being in occupation, the buildings stood on municipal property and consequently could not be included as an asset. The election of officers for tho incoming season resulted : -—Patron, the Mayor; president, Mr J. B. Gerrand (re-elected); vice-president, Mr W. Bates; honorary general secretary and treasurer, Mr D. F. Smillio (re-elect-ed). Officers of bowling section: Comimttee. Messrs Cockburn, King and Ongley ; solo selector, Mr J. Kershaw; delegates to centre, Messrs Gerrand and W. Hunter; bowling supervisor, Mr Kershaw. Croquet section : President, Mrs Corbridge; committee, Mesdames Robertson, Radford and Glendinning ; tea committee, Mesdames Fuller, Spinley and Spring; delegates to association, Mesdames Corbridge and Robertson; secretary, Mrs H. Sinclair. Permission was granted tho tennis section to make their appointments later. Three new members were elected. Mr Gerrand was appointed general green supervisor, and Mr W. J. Robertson croquet green supervisor. Mr W. Hunter was re-elected honorary auditor, being accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his past services. It was decided to preface the opening of the season by tho holding of a social and dance, a strong committee being set up to arrange details. Objection was raised by Mr Cutler to players entering for tire Easter tournament being charged 12s 6d, and then being levied a further Is per member, the latter being a direct payment to the caretakers of the greens. —lt was decided to refer the matter to th delegates to the centre in order that tho subject be ventilated at a meeting of that body.
