THE WEATHER
GENERAL FORECAST. An anti-cyclone now covers New Zealand and the eastern Tasman Sea. Pressure is falling over south-eastern Australia. Moderate southerly winds, decreasing and later veering to westerly and northerly in and south of Cook Strait. Seas: A considerable southerly swell south of East Cape, but soon moderating; elsewhere smooth to moderate in New Zealand waters. Variable winds in the eastern Tasman Sea, tending northerly and later freshening. Weather fair to fine almost generally, but still some scattered showers on the East Coast of the North Island. DISTRICT REPORT. MILDER TEMPERATURES. The Government meteorologist wired to-day:—The indications are lor southerly moderate winds prevailing soon, and backing by east to north. There is a prospect of fair weather continuing, with milder temperatures. The barometer shows little rnpyement. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —3ft. 9ins.
