FINDING WORK FOR MEMBERS.
A special meeting of the unemploy«inent committee of the Returned Solidiers’ Association was called recently ■£q review the position in respect to unemployment amongst ex-service men. It was reported to the meeting that in all 25 men had been placed with the City Council m connection with the “Poppy Day” scheme and that 24 were still so engaged. The appeal for subsidised work made had not been as successful as had been anticipated, but it was mentioned that in all 21 men had been employed on subsidised private work, while some few men had been .provided with employment by private ..nempjo^nt is concerned was considered to bp most acute and it was decided to reques* the City Council to allow the association to 7 replace the men now employed by the council, so as to spread the work" as equitably as possible between all seeking employment. it was also decided to concentrate further on private works, which the associationi s prepared to subsidise and by this means it is hoped to obtain „ work for those who will be taken oil the City Council works. It has been arranged by the asso'nation that men who have been employed under the “Poppy Day scheme will not have to qualify for employment under the No. 5 scheme provided they have already served their 14 days qualification. , The committee expressed the hope that the appeal for private subsidised work would be well answered.
